chinkana & dominicans

HISTORICAL FACTS

The Dominican priests, upon finding this tunnel, decided to build a crypt in this sector, joining the entrance of the Inca tunnel to the colonial crypt. From the 17th century until the middle of the 20th century, this crypt was completely closed and access was restricted. It was the same crypt where Anselm Pi Rambla, Francisco Serrat and the Prior of the Convent had entered in 1982 and it was also the same place where the student had come out with a golden corn that the Dominicans melted down to make a crown for the Virgin.

Currently, thanks to the historical events that have occurred, the excavation work carried out, the data provided by the Georadar and the investigations carried out by our Bohic Ruz Explorer team, we have been able to know the truth of all these facts and discover the location of the Chinkana within the current church of the Convent of Santo Domingo, the exact place where it leaves the Koricancha in the direction of Saqsaywaman and its route below the city of Cuzco.
